We tried to run the nessus security tool to our HP9000 unix server and as expected found severel items.
The bad thing is that it caused some problems on one machine.
After the nessus run I have 2 processes that cause a heavy cpu load, perflbd and recserv.
Can I kill those processes or stop-start without disturbing the rest?
Regards, Alfons Velthof

Solution/sbin/init.d/mwa stop
/sbin/init.d/mwa start
the recserv appears to be a daemon to allow automatic xhosts activity (see the man page).
It runs from inetd so I would suspect that you can kill it, and it will respawn again if required. at worst it may kick an X windows session off your system. If you have a production X windows application then maybe I wouldn't, otherwise it should be fine.
I have no experience of recserv I'm only suggesting based on guesses from the manpage.

Re: recserv perflbd
perflbd is a process use by Glance/MeasureWare. use mwa to check status:
# mwa status
to stop:
# mwa stop
to start:
# mwa start
check if the process is still high.
for recserv, "man recserv" for more info.
regards.
