Reflection X: The specified XDM host is unwilling to manage

Hi
does any body know where from this error message comes and how to solve this problem? I get it on trying to open an Reflection-X-Connection to my K360 on HP-UX 11.00. The connection will not be opened.
I do not remember having done any changes on my pc nor on the K360
Many thanks

Re: Reflection X: The specified XDM host is unwilling to manage

Hi,
Login as root on K Class and try giving xhost +
Then try from the PC.
Or else check for the settings of XDM on your PC if someone else might have changed something.

Re: Reflection X: The specified XDM host is unwilling to manage

Hi

There are lots of things it could be

does
/var/dt/Xerrors show anything

Try
/usr/contrib/bin/X11/dr_dt

Look at
"netstat -p udp"

Stop cde and remove old socket files
rm /var/spool/sockets/X11/*
rm /var/spool/sockets/grmd

Re: Reflection X: The specified XDM host is unwilling to manage

sounds to me it's a stand ReflectionX error message .... so since dtlogin on the K-class will be responsible for managing XDMCP connections .... is it running : ps -ef ¦ grep dtlogin ....

any additional info in RX's log file ? Are the systems contactable on the network and resolve OK wrt hostname/ip lookups ...

lastly any firewalls, switches routers or similar in the way between the PC and 9000 sever

Re: Reflection X: The specified XDM host is unwilling to manage

This might be a long shot but check the /usr/dt/config/Xaccess file on your target server. See if these two lines are commented out. If commented then uncomment the lines and try again:

* # grant service to all remote displays

* CHOOSER BROADCAST # any indirect host can get a chooser

Re: Reflection X: The specified XDM host is unwilling to manage

Troubleshooting Xwindows can be a real pain since there is so much software running on both sides (PC and HP-UX). Start Reflection/X and then do NOT start any session, just iconify the program. Now start a telnet window (Reflection/X provides a very nice VT-style emulator called r2win.exe) Just telnet to the host and login. Now set the DISPLAY variable with:

export DISPLAY=$(who -muR | awk '{print $NF}'):0.0

Then start a simple Xwindow program:

/usr/bin/X11/xclock

If that works, then you can start troubleshooting the XDMP side of things. Personally, I prefer just starting the Xwindow program(s) I need rather than taking over my whole screen with CDE. And I never use Xwindows for a text screen--there's a 100:1 network traffic penalty using Xwindows versus a local telnet window like the Reflection terminal emulator.

Hi Juerg,
Please verify that you don't have
/etc/dt/config/Xaccess

Re: Reflection X: The specified XDM host is unwilling to manage

Thanks to all

I think I'm getting closer. I moved from one location to an other one. So I also moved to a new IP-Subnet(from 999.99.99.* to 999.99.00.*). I now changed the line in Xaccess to 999.99.*.*. So I think I will have Xaccess within the whole company where ever I do my login.

But I think (from all your information I got) I have to restart "cde".

How do I have to do this without rebooting the whole system?

Many thanks

/sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc stop and then /sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc start

Re: Reflection X: The specified XDM host is unwilling to manage

Hi Juerg,

to me that looks more like a firewall problem:
could it be that there is a firewall between your PC (the one running Reflection/X) and your HP-UX box?
Since XDMCP uses port 177 over UDP, my guess is that the firewall is dopping those UDP packets (firewall admins don't like UDP at all).
So they'll have to let pass though UDP/177 from PC->HP-UX (and the answer packets, too) in addition to TCP/6000 (port 6000 on the PC, ports > 1023 on HP-UX)...

FWIW,
