I use syslog function to output a Japanese
sentence into syslog.log, but
I found Japanese has been changed to some
simple charaters. now terminal and envionment
variable LANG were set normally.
Does Anybody know how to resolve this, thanks
OS: HP-UX Release 11.00 LANG: ja_JP.eucJP

Re: Regarding how to display Japanese in syslog
but how to get ASE(asian supporting environment). can it be downloaded from HP?
Is it included in HP-UNIX packages or a single production? We have licence for HP-UNIX, it's useful for this?

Re: Regarding how to display Japanese in syslog
I have checked using following command:
/usr/sbin/swlist -l product PHSS_15398 PHSS_16310 PHSS_16325 PHSS_20189 PHSS_20190 PHSS_20191 PHSS_20192
I found it have been supported by JSE
but why cannot syslog Japanese in syslog.log?

Solutionsyslog could not handle Japanese characters.
Whenever Japanese characters
get written to syslog, it became garbage. Even if they used `logger`
followed by Japanese characters, it becames garbage characters in syslog. I'm unsure if this was resolved but it sounds as if you had it working at 10.20 : my advise would be to try installing the latest Xserver, CDE and CDE message catalogue patches ?
PHSS_25138
s700_800 11.00 CDE Runtime SEP2001 Periodic Patch
4. Japanese fonts in 11.0 do not have all the necessary
fonts in the fonts.alias file.
5. Front panel does not follow the Dtwm*iconPlacement
resource where as other clients are following
correctly.
6. This is an enhancement request. User wants to have a
confirmation dialog while deleting a workspace.
7. CDE reports errors about bad paths like "/usr/ucb/"
and "/home/root".
8. Get garbled characters in passwd change window in CDE
japanese env.
It *might* help or detail if you had it working at 10.20 and compare patch levels / installed s/w .

Re: Regarding how to display Japanese in syslog
While loading the OS you can choose the OS to be japanese, french, german..... At that time the whole OS will be in that language.
While any application doing transaction involving any different languages, then those particular languages locales needs to be installed(PHCO_16942, PHCO_14775 for japanese). you can download and create bundle of those patches from HP site, but while installing you get error if you don't have ASE installed.
