Re: Regarding HP-UX process
- which error message is the user getting ?
- /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log is a always good place to start looking.

Re: Regarding HP-UX process
the user may be locked due to many reasons:
e.g. "too many unsuccessful logins"
first try:
$ passwd -s user
or
$ /usr/lbin/geprpw $user
look for "lockout=".

Re: Regarding HP-UX process
Another question
how does your user log in?
ssh or telnet or CDE or Oracle or SAP?

Solutionagain:
- which error message is the user getting ?
- /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log is a always
good place to start looking
inetd is the process waiting for connection on port 23/tcp. A incoming connection then is passed to telnetd to be served.
First check if telnet is enabled/disabled
$ grep telnet /etc/inetd.conf
if not #-marked check:
$ netstat -a | grep telnet
there should be line with LISTEN
if so check /var/adm/inetd.sec.
