Regarding shifting of production server
Dear Experts,
I have a rp3440 Server with MSA 30 which where i m running my oracle DB. I bought a new rp440 box and want to migrate oracle with the MSA 30 from rp3440 to new rp4440 server. Can i do it without any data loss, menaing that i unplug MSA from rp3440 and connect the same to rp4440 with data intact? If yes how? also i have 2 HDD in rp4440 as of now with no OS mirror. Now i want to do a OS mirror also in same before bringing it online for production.
Yes the OS is HP-UX 11i.
Please help what steps i should follow.
Thanks for help in advance.

Re: Regarding shifting of production server
hi,
So many questions in single post! :)
Concerning the Oracle database:
How is your Oracle Datafiles? Raw or cooked or are you using asm?
As long as your device files or file systems are "reproduced" as exactly as on the source database server, you should not have any problem at the Oracle Database level.
However, if you have enough disk space, i would prefer a fresh reinstallation on the new server and using RMAN to backup and restore.
hope this helps!
kind regards
yogeeraj

Re: Regarding shifting of production server
HI Yogeeraj,
Thanks for your response. My oracle is installed in MSA 30 on file system. All log files are there. So if i can somehow can get the same volume back on my new server, it will work without any issue. The question is how i can do this?
