After performing a remote backup from HP-UX to a SUN, it prompt the following error.
Can you please advise what does this error means?
How to rectify this error?
"dd: unexpected short write, wrote 0 bytes, expected 10240
205802517+126 records in
10290129+0 records out"
The command used is
LogFile="/home/admin/logs/stdf/2004/tar_$Year$Mth$Day.log"
tar cvhf - aug/31 sep/0? sep/1? sep/2? sep/3? 2>$LogFile | remsh esx002 "dd of=/dev/rmt/0m obs=10k"

Re: Remote Backup Error
Hi,
I would check the capacity of the tape and the size of the data you are trying to backup. If the tape's capacity is not sufficient, then you may see this error.

You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don't try

Solution
Looks like the backup terminated during a write. Could be a bad tape, or network connection since you are using Berkely network services to to the backup.
