Remote Make Recovery

Hi,

in my work, i need to do make_recovery in more of 400 HP-UXs machines, my doubt is if possible to I create a Ignite server in a Server A and execute the make_recovery of my machines to write in the Tape Drive of my Ignite Server in Server A. If not possible there is another solution???

Re: Remote Make Recovery

Hello marcelo.
If I understand correctly, Marcelo if you have enough disk space, you can create an ignite server and do a make_net_recovery and this will create the images of every HPUX box you got in the ignite server.

Knowledge is power.

Re: Remote Make Recovery

Not possible. There is no such thing as a remote tape drive, which is why Ignite has a network option. You either need 400 tape drives, or a few dozen portable drives, or buy the disk space needed to do this over the network. 400 machines is a massive requirement and you will likely need a dedicated server to perform the task. From a practical point of view, 400 machines x 2 hrs = 800 hrs = 33 days to backup everything one time. You probably need to step back and rethink this project. Think in terms of 1000 Base/T backbone and terabytes of data (400 machines x 10Gb = 4Tb).

Re: Remote Make Recovery

if you review the ignite FAQ file that is on your ignite server. It should show you how to copy utilities and the ignite image to a tape after creating it on the ignite server.

That FAQ file is invaluable and will make you successful with ignite.

Re: Remote Make Recovery

Marcelo,

First take a survey of your machines which has same directory structures with same software and same version for all this server's you can use the same ignite tape to restore the os in all the machines if you have any kernel changes take a seprate ignite for that particular machine ignite will not restore data it help you to restore the os with the updated patches and modification you made so the maximum bakup might be 20 to 50 i feel prepare a document in excel sheet by differentiating the server's that will make you work low and save your time.
