Remote printers losing connection

I am using Okidata laser printers connected as remote printers on my network. Thay are losing connection on a regular basis. I am runnning HPUX 11.00. Any ideas regarding what could be causing this?

Re: Remote printers losing connection

Hi,

Can you do a traceroute , and keep on testing with ping command (better keep it in cron and the output of the same should be redirected to another file) to the ip address of the printer, which is giving problem, that may give you more details on what is happening ..

/usr/contrib/bin/traceroute
/usr/sbin/ping

Hope this helps ..

Cheers !!!

Re: Remote printers losing connection

Hi

U can check these following

1. Physical connectivity in both side (Printer and HP Box)

2. check up whether ur Printer and HP box are same subnet or not. If not check up ur gateway is proper or not.

3. Check up the lp configuration in Machine side.

4. continously ping and see, when it is misbehaving.

then come out with some more inputs.
Best of luck

Re: Remote printers losing connection

I can ping the printers, but I never get any response when using traceroute. I have these printers set up as remote because thay are OKIDATA and not HP. The HP printers on my network work great (naturally).

Re: Remote printers losing connection

Hi Pat,

I don't have an answer but I do have a solution. Install JetDirect EX's on your Okidata's. This is my standard solution when I have any problem with non-HP network printers. I suspect the time you have spent fighting this problem would have more than paid for the cost of the external JetDirects.

My 2 cents, Clay
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
