Re: Removing unwanted filesets - reason is space needed
Now about to try the install for the latest Quality Pack from HP...
On the production side of things...those Oracle users have 10 mins before I bring that baby down to put on this tape drive. It's an HP SureStore Dat-72 ;)

Re: Removing unwanted filesets - reason is space needed
I made a boo-boo. I was trying to install the Quality Pack for HP-XU 11.00 (September 2003). I had no choice but to back out of it though, since it kept halting at 5%. I now have the Quality Pack (March 2004) install running now and I'll let you know how that goes. I got the files from here:
ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/patch_bundles/hp-ux/QUALITYPACK/
Once the install goes successfully. I'll make a backup of my system and vmunix.prev files after the reboot and then get ready to do the tape backup...

Re: Removing unwanted filesets - reason is space needed
Thanks for the link. Install at 65% and seems to be going smoothly. I'm here reading up on Managing Disks Using the LVM from the HP-UX System Administration Tasks Manual...

Re: Removing unwanted filesets - reason is space needed
make_tape_recovery -a /dev/rmt/Xmn -I -v -x inc_entire=vg00
to give you a complete backup of your root volume group.

Re: Removing unwanted filesets - reason is space needed
Thanks for your input.
Other guys,
I have installed the March 2004 Quality Pack successfully and the server has been rebooted. It's now at the root:INLAND3? prompt.
I would like to make a complete backup before proceeding further. We have a SureStorage Dat8 tape drive and I'm sure we have spare tapes (will check) and I also have Ignite UX install.
What do I do next?

Re: Removing unwanted filesets - reason is space needed
In the man of make_recovery it still says -A is for entire disk /volume group
But I agree the syntax is obsolete and your suggestion is preferable. It wat just a question of beeing sure to have something with the easiest syntax possible: make_recovery -Av ...
All the best

Re: Removing unwanted filesets - reason is space needed
I have a further question but it's about attaching our new Dat72 tape drive. At the back of the server there is a terminator (??) attached (covering) a slot which is labeled:
SLOT1 > LAN/SCSI CORE IO
Question is, can I remove this terminator and use it to directly connect the tape? The drive came with a VHD connection but we don't have one of those cards.
The SLOT 1 has a slot for a network connection but we are using the other LAN connection on the machine.
What do you think?

Re: Removing unwanted filesets - reason is space needed
The make_recovery command is obsolete. Newer versions of Ignite (which I assume Adrain has because he's on 11.0) use make_tape_recovery.
Run "whence make_recovery" and "whence make_tape_recovery" to find out which version you have. If you have make_recovery you should download and the latest version of Ignite from http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/index.html

Re: Removing unwanted filesets - reason is space needed
make_recovery -Av
It will look for the default tape.. so if it works we can then find the name of the device but Im sure its /dev/rmt/0m...
We shall see if it works and then use more esoteric syntax...
