SolutionYou mean to say only mount point not the logical volume i guess....
If its then its simple. crate new directory with new mount point name and then mount lvol on that directory.
#mkdir
#mount
Only thing here is you need to unmount that lvol which makes data unavailable for that period of time.

Re: Rename the mount point
that means any oracle flat file location that are set in oracle parameter file may be changed accordingly.

Re: Rename the mount point
I mean to say it wont change or harm your data residing on that lvol.
But yes, as you are changing mount point i.e. there is change is path so, it have to have reflected in configuration or so in Oracle wherever it is needed.
So, bottom line is "there is NO data Loss or lateration" during rename but renaming should be reflected in application where path varibles comes into picture.

Re: Rename the mount point
I dont wish to comment on it holding with little knowledge about oracle. Maybe other olympian or expert out here will help you and guide you for what all changes required under Oracle to reflect this name change.
Best Luck.

Re: Rename the mount point
when changing the mount point you have to change all scripts that include /u07 to /u7.
You could use both mount points for a while, but you have to take care then, that no file is used from both mount points at one moment!
I believe you have to configure your oracle when you want to change the mount pt.
Just some thoughts

Re: Rename the mount point
Who wants to do is to transfer data from shared storage to local hard disk with the same mount point
But I can't work a new mount point with a same mount point name existed.
thanks and best regards

Re: Rename the mount point
ok - but this you can't do during a running oracle session ...
You can:
- stop oracle
- stop all processes handling files of /u07
(check with 'ps -ef|grep /u07')
- copy /u07 to anything, like /u7
- umount /u07
- rename /u7 to /u07
- start oracle
- test everything
If you don't know exactly the oracle procedures you also could shutdown your server, boot into single user mode, mount the log vol of /u07 to /u7, copy everything from /u7 to /u07, continue booting, check everything.

Re: Rename the mount point
the mount point in shared memory is
/dev/vg07/lvol1 /u07
i wan to move to local hard disk with the same name of mount point
/dev/vg08/lvol1 /u07
but As I said before i can't create the same name of mount point in the same place and i Do not have enough space for only one space
i can't work to copy this data more one in the hard disk thanks, only i can do this
create new mount point with new name to copy /u07 to it only
/dev/vg08/lvol1 /test e.g.
and then rename the /test to /u07 after delete the original /u07 but what is the affect on this solution
Thanks & kind Regards

Re: Rename the mount point
as long as you do this in single user mode - nothing will happen.
But I wouldn't delete the original volume immediately.
IF you have any problems you can roll-back everything.
