replacing fddi card with ethernet; will re-config be required?

We're swapping our FDDI card for a standard ethernet card. I've been led to believe that we simply power-down, swap the card and reboot and that hp-ux will recognize the new card, hook up the right driver and we're back up.

Is it as simple as that?

I have little to no experience doing this kind of this so any help would be appreciated.

Unless the driver is native to the OS, you will have load it from the first application CD Rom, and configure it in /etc/rc.config.d/netconf and /etc/hosts.

Even you installed the new lan card in the same slot you removed the FDDI from you get another "instance" for the card. (FDDI could have been named lan1 and the new one lan2 ).

Use #lanscan to verify this. Then use #ioscan to see if the new card in CLAIMED. If it's claimed you wouldn't have to install any new soft or rebuild the kernel.

Then update the /etc/rc.config.d/netconf file and run # /sbin/init.d/net start
to make the changes take effect.
Use #netstat -in to see if everything is fine

Also, there have been lots of system related problems in the past associated with fddi. It would probably be a good idea to swremove the fddi software and associated patches and then reapply your most recent patch bundle cdrom.
