replacing fddi with ethernet; will software re-config be required?
We're swapping our FDDI card for a standard ethernet card. I've been led to believe that we simply power-down, swap the card and reboot and that hp-ux will recognize the new card, hook up the right driver and we're back up.
Is it as simple as that?
I have little to no experience doing this kind of this so any help would be appreciated.

Re: replacing fddi with ethernet; will software re-config be required?
Hi,
Yes, the new card should be recognized when the box is powered up. Run lanscan or ioscan -fC lan to verify that it is recognized and the correct driver is in the kernel. You may need to rebuild the kernel if the driver is not present.
From a software standpoint, anything that was using the old interface name will need to be updated. For example, you will probably have to edit /etc/rc.config.d/netconf. lanscan will tell you what the interface name should be, i.e., lan0.

Re: replacing fddi with ethernet; will software re-config be required?
I don't know if you accomplished this task or not, but HP-UX 10/100BaseT cards typically have to have driver software loaded. The only exception is the builtin "btlan3" driver as found in some of various system models. For the other 10/100BaseT drivers, you can load the drivers before switching network types, but of course the system does reboot when rebuilding the kernel. Since you didn't say which kind of System model and 10/100BaseT card in use, I won't confuse you further, since each card type has a unique driver to load from the applications CD.
I hope this helps and I'm not too late...BRIAN
