Replacing fiber cards on N-Class

hey folks! I have an N-Class that does not have a support contract on it that I need to replace the fiber cards on. It's racked and I can't figure out what I need to unscrew to make it slide out so that I can take the old cards out and put the new ones in. Any help?

Re: Replacing fiber cards on N-Class

Hi,
would help if you can specify the model, but as a start have a look at:
http://docs.hp.com/en/hw.html

Please also read:

Re: Replacing fiber cards on N-Class

First the N class is VERY heavy.

You will need to slide it out (I assume it's on rails) and open the side panel. You can then access the cards to replace them. The L class is the same just in case you needed to know.

Re: Replacing fiber cards on N-Class

Hi,

see the manual (add IO cards chapter):

http://docs.hp.com/en/3687/rp7400_customer_hardwaremanual.pdf

Quote:
"To extend the SPU out the back of the cabinet:
a. Remove the four (two on each side) retainer screws, holding the bezel flange to the cabinet
vertical post.
b. Carefully extend the SPU out the front of the cabinet approximately 2 to 4 inches.
c. Loosen the six (three on each side) mounting screws holding the bezel brackets to the side of the
SPU.
d. Lift the bezel bracket up and off the SPU chassis. Be sure that both left and right side brackets
are removed.
e. Be sure the rear door is open and does not swing closed during the SPU movement. If necessary
the rear door can be removed
f. Carefully extend the SPU out the back of the cabinet until the stops on the rails halt rearward
motion.
...
g. Loosen the two captive screws at the end of the I/O card slot cover.
h. Swing the cover away and off of the SPU.
"

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Replacing fiber cards on N-Class

Thanks. I've got the cards in but the system doesn't recognize them on boot. I'm going to install the drivers and we'll see what happens. I hope I don't need a firmware upgrade as there is currently no support on the box.

Re: Replacing fiber cards on N-Class

Shalom Maria,

The docs posted above will enable you to do this.

However, if the system is important, you may wish to simply pay time and materials for HP to do it. Its very expensive, but they stand behind their work.
