Replacing root disks in HPUX 11.23

Hello together,

I have a Integrity server with 2x 73GB internal hard drivers. This drives are connected to the internal RAID-Controller.

ioscan saying:
0/2/1/0/4/0 ext_bus PCI-X SmartArray 6402 RAID Controller
0/2/1/0/4/0.0 target
0/2/1/0/4/0.0.0 disk HP LOGICAL VOLUME

So, now I would like to replace this disks with bigger disks (146GB).

How can I do this?
What steps are to do?

Thanks & Regards,
Heinrich Geiger

Take the Ignite backup, replace the disk and restore it from Ignite..

Ignite or if you are using 11.23 or 11.31 you can use DRD.

Re: Replacing root disks in HPUX 11.23

First, backup to tape (using ignite)
#make_tape_recovery -AI
than, halt your server, unplug old disk and plug your new disk, Install using ignite

It's always good to have a backup ;-)

I would try to swap 1 disk at a time, the logical drive will remain, but you have more space left to extend this drive or create another logical drive.

If you extend the drive (man saconfig/sautil), use vgmodify to adjust the LVM settings.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
