Replication of vg00 for HP-UX server to another HP-UX server

Can anyone point me in the right direction for replicating vg00 on an rp5450 (PA-RISC). We want to replicate it to another rp5450, but located in a different location (to our Disaster Recovery Site).

Everything we've researched is showing it for a Windows environment not a Unix environment. Are we missing something?

Thanks in advance.

Will do just what you are asking.

I'm sorry, maybe I didn't word it correctly. We currently do our backups from ignite and lay them down on other systems via ignite, but what we are looking for is sending the data from one location (our production site) to another location (our Disaster Recovery Site). This will ensure that the Disaster Recovery site will be up today and be able to go into production mode should we need it (without having the down time to ignite the systems).

I'm guessing your question is asking about real-time data replication. Also, this does not seem to be inclusive of the vg00 since you are already igniting.

Various options available for this. Some require additional hardware.

From your backup tape/media (not the ignite tape) you can have them transported to the DR site and then conduct a restore of the data.

Other extreme, can have real-time data replication via some data storage devices or arrays. Example, the SRDF (Symmetrix Remote Data Facility) will keep data in real time on differing EMC devices.

Other manufacturers do something similar.

You can also ask HP about their CA product

Note that depending on the rate of change for the vg00 filesystems, you may require a very expensive network connection. Disks are 10 times faster than a 100Mbit LAN and a T3 link is a paltry 45Mbits (but very expensive as a monthly charge). vg00 can be very busy, especially in / and /var and a typical business link (T1) would never be able to keep up. It would take very specialized software to keep things straight between the two sites. If this is 24x7, it is even more critical that you change your vg00 disks to a smart array that knows how to keep remote disks in sync. Your array vendor can describe the bandwidth requirements based on what your current measurements report.
