Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]

The issue is this. I don't have my country "NIGERIA" listed in the country drop down menu, that is why I use Canada. Please help me address this issue.

Thanks and welcome on board, by the way, where is Shayne?

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]

Hi,

The only problem other that the odd 404, is a comment suggestion for the submit new message gui.

I know this is usually just me, but pressing return in the message header box posts the thing instantly, leaving a rather poor blank question which must annoy everyone.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]

I had been trouble free for such a long time until I received a SSI Error today.

BTW, I have talked to ohter HP SysAdmins who have been shying away from the the ITRC due to slow repsonse time. I know the ITRC community is strong, but it a shame to see others not participating.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]

Hi Laurent:

The overall response time (refreshing pages and/or opening threads) has been abysmally slow (>= ~15-seconds) the last 2-days or so. I'm seeing quite a few SSI errors too.

Last night the Search engine was intermittantly inoperative. "No Results" would be reported erroneously.

I think we are starting to lose contributors. I hope that something is done soon to improve performance and reliability.

Regards!

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]

Hi Laurent:

It appears that the SEARCH engine is again defunct. I just saw a post from a "newbie" user who started out by APOLOGIZING for his inability to find an answer, and therefore for having to post his question. We have suffered with performance problems and bugs since last November 2000. I regret that I feel that I need to ask bluntly, when we can expect some permanent resolution?

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]

This thread has been going for over a month now. Laurent should probably start a new one to get current status. I'll add a couple of things I have experienced.

Recently I was forced to change my password. Sometimes the new password is not accepted. I'll try the new one and the old one (I'm sure I'm not mixing them up) and not be able to login. Then later in the same day I will be able to login.

At least one thread has disappeared. It was not moved, it just vanished. Shannon Petry had started a thread on Expert Presents requiring Windows plugins. I posted a reply on I believe April 4th or 5th. I went back to look at it the following Monday, April 9th and it was blank. There had been several replies posted. They were all gone, even the original question was gone. There was just a blank box. I posted a reply to that, wondering what happened. The next day, April 10th the entire thread was gone.
On April 10th I went to the "contact hp" link and submitted a question about the missing thread. Now 16 days later no one has replied. That's disturbing.

A couple of other things:
Mark Vollmers commented that some threads are one width, no left/right scrolling required, others make us scroll. This also affects printing. How about a standard size that does not require scrolling and prints well on a portrait page?

Sharon Bi cut a pasted a rather long thread basically suggesting what I had been asking for for months. A FAQ section. Many of the same questions get posted over and over again. FAQ would be very good for this. I think it was Bill McNammara who suggested going to the Technical Knowledge Base for this. Most of those answers are too brief, lack detail and often times are incorrect. Pretty much a waste of time.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]

The search engine is whacked again. As a test, I put in "unix" and "hp-ux" as parameters, and both times there were no matches for the forums. Hmm...

Yesterday, it did the same thing and then worked fine later in the day.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]

Last week I got numerous ssi errors when attempting to enter the form. After a couple of attempts, I was able to get in. Also got ssi errors when trying to read some of the threads, but again, was able to read after another attempt.

Search was acting funning. Sometime last week, I was doing a search and no entries were returned. I tried several times, but no entries. I even tried something common, like network, but no responses. After a while, it started working again????

If I had only read the instructions first??

Hi all,

thanks again for all of your contributions. All your various messages have been taken into account in order to build more robust and performant forums. Your feedback has been really helpful in order to list problems you experienced as well as setting the right priorities, based on your expectations.

I encourage you to report any issue that you encounter, so that we can efficiently fix issues, and then monitor the solutions that were applied. Also, if you feel that new features should be added to the forums, we would be more than happy to integrate your proposals to future versions of the forums.

Best regards,

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]

Did someone forget to feed the gerbils today?

I have been getting a consistent 30 seconds to 2 minutes refresh time.

It has been a long, painful wait process to use the forums today.

At least there were no actual timeouts or pages not found.

While I'm in the forums, my PC get a hang once everyday and can't do anything else except for turning power off.
This is strange because I never experience this kind of thing when I surf other web sites on the internet.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]

I do have a problem with the search function lately. Actual problem:

I know i had a thread in this forum called something like "slowing system clock down?", but i can't find it.

I tired the search for all words with:
-slow clock system
-slow clock
-adjusttime
-Stefan Schulz
-clock Andreas Voss

I tried Boolan search with:
-Stefan AND Schulz

In neither way i could find my own thread, althoug i found some of my other threads. So nobody else will be able to participate (hope this is the right word) from the great answers i got.

Please have a look at the search functions. Stefan
