Requesting Enhancement from HP?

Does anybody know what the process is for requesting an Enhancement for HP-UX from HP (not requesting a Bug Fix)?

thanks

Re: Requesting Enhancement from HP?

David,

Probably the best route to take would to be to open a software call with HP and let the engineer know that you would like to submit a enhancement request. They should be able to get this submitted for you. Keep in mind that just because an enhancement/service request is generated, does not mean it will be addressed. I believe it usually comes down to demand and feasibility.

Hope this helps!

Re: Requesting Enhancement from HP?

Plan B.

Talk to your Sales Rep and get him to put you in touch with the Product Manager. This usually works well if you need an enhancement to a product like OmniBack but not if you need a general purpose utility like grep to do something new. If you are a member of Interex (and you should be) they can also assist.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Requesting Enhancement from HP?

Opening an SR with HP is the correct way to go.

Unless you're Amazon, don't hold your breath.

I wish HP would add something like Sun's java Bug / RFE (request for enhancement) database, where folks can actually vote on which enhancements and bugs should see action first.

Cisco's bug tracker (it also works for feature requests) is cool too.

Re: Requesting Enhancement from HP?

An Enhancement Request (ER) follows the same route/path as a bug fix aka as a SR (Service Request) within HP.

Your first step as Eric quite rightly said is to raise a call with your local HP Response Centre and get in contact with an HP Engineer.

The stronger the buisness impact/need the better the chance of getting it looked at and addressed, but also the number of requests counts too !

ps if you post the "problem" there maybe a known/suitable work-around or something that's undocumented that you maybe unaware of at this stage or an ER(s) already raised for it.
