Reset network card on 11i V1

If I want to set my network card on HPUX 11i V1 from 100/full to 1000/full does that require a reset of the card (stop/start).
Thanks

Re: Reset network card on 11i V1

The card hardware will reset itself, causing a short loss of link (10 seconds or less; usually much less).

The IP network parameters will not be lost, so running "/sbin/init.d/net start" will not be necessary.

Because a gigabit Ethernet link requires the determination of some critical link-level parameters between the link partners, autonegotiation is mandatory on gigabit links.

With some network hardware, it is possible to "force" a particular speed/duplex state, but this is done very differently from 100Mbit Ethernet: in gigabit, the autonegotiation is never completely disabled, but the negotiation message is changed. When a gigabit interface is forced to 1000/full, its autonegotiation message will essentially be the equivalent of: "The only speed/duplex combination available is 1000/full. Take it or leave it."

Thanks, that just what I thought. I need to check with the network people and coordinate this change. Thanks again

Re: Reset network card on 11i V1

It would (IMO) be best to remove any hardcoding of speed or duplex and rely on autosense (speed) and autonegotiation (duplex) on both ends of the wire. Then when you move the cable from the 100BT port to the 1000BT port it should all just be automagic.
