							Reset Root Password in N4000

						Hi,
I am having a HP-UX 11i machine here and we just implemented sudo.
When I tried to reset the root's password, the system actually ask for the old password for the root id. Is there any way that we can reset the root password without providing the old password?
For normal user account, we can easily reset a password by having system generates a new password. Why for root account, system cannot provide a new password without asking for the old password?
If i am not mistaken, i remember that before we implemented sudo, we can actually reset a root password without having to type in the old password. Am I right?
Thanks.

I could be wrong, but I suspect you may have turned on trusted system. If this is not the case, let us know.

By default, when trusted system is turned on, changing the root passwd, you must know what the old one is. If as root you can get into the /tcb database you can remove the old password encryption for the root account.
The file you after is here:
/tcb/files/auth/r/root
