Resizing with Online JFS via SAM

I am having a problem similar to others trying to increase the size of a file system with Online JFS using SAM on HPUX 11.23. I am receiving the error message that the file system cannot be unmounted because it is busy.

I can use lvextend and fsadm from the command line succesfully.

I have installed PHCO_34208.

Here is the list of software installed:

Re: Resizing with Online JFS via SAM

The easy answer is: Don't use SAM.

I don't use SAM for ANY LVM operations.

I much prefer the command line where you have much more control over what is happening.

Re: Resizing with Online JFS via SAM

Since it mentions something like "unable to unmount" it means that SAM is not aware of OnlineJFS you have installed. If you have installed online JFS produt without any errors, this should not be happening.

But in any case, you can do the same thing using command line. It is not as bad as you might think.

first determine the size of the logical volume in MBs using this command:
lvdisplay /dev/vg00/lvol5 | grep "LV Size" | awk {'print $4'}

you will see a number like
4200

as a result of this command

use this number below:

fsadm -F vxfs -b 4200M /mount_point

should be fairly easy. Isn't it ?

Hope this helps

Re: Resizing with Online JFS via SAM

Don't use sam - it is easier to use command line:

lvextend -L /dev/vgXX/lvolx
fsadm -b M /mountpoint/of/that/lvol

Example:

lvextend -L 2048 /dev/vg00/lvol7
fsadm -b 2048M /tmp

Re: Resizing with Online JFS via SAM

Shalom,

man fsadm

defragment the volume.
then use fsadm to reduce it from the command line.

Re: Resizing with Online JFS via SAM

I have assigned minimal points since those who responded failed to notice that I had said that I could use fsadm from the command line to deal with this issue.

I really just wanted to alert HP to a bug in SAM if they hadn't already corrected it.
