Restore a make_net_recovery Archive on to a different server?

I have searched the forum, and found several references to ITRC Doc lpv37703.

Unfortunately all links to the document are dead. From every post, this answered the questions regarding usning a network ignite image to ignite a different server with the image. Does anyone have a valid link to this document or to a successor to this document?

Re: Restore a make_net_recovery Archive on to a different server?

Shalom Daniel,

In version 4 of Ignite or lower, the answer is no.

Our Ignite guy did it with version 5.3.x which has been recalled.

So the answer depends on what version of Ignite you have and what you used to create the archive.

Re: Restore a make_net_recovery Archive on to a different server?

Are both nodes existing clients? If so, look under /var/opt/ignite/clients/. Both nodes should be listed here, host names linked to a dir based on primary nic's MAC addr. If you move aside the "old" client's dir and link it to the "new" client's dir (the one whose image you want to use)... I think that would be where you need to start.

try narrowing your search to include thinkgs like make_net_recovery, archive, lla, mac and /var/opt/ignite/clients keywords. It could help.

Re: Restore a make_net_recovery Archive on to a different server?

It probably can be done Daniel.

I'm not sure exactly when the functionality was introduced.

You might be better off upgrading to Ignite 6.x and making a new make_net_recovery and trying off of that.

If not possible, its worth a try at the current version.

Doc appears to be lost, but we did it, so its possible.

Re: Restore a make_net_recovery Archive on to a different server?

I know that this can be done, as I have done it in the past. I know that there is information stored in more than one place pertaining to what is in the archive, so I do not believe that pointing the machine to the other archive will take care of all of the pieces to make this work smoothly. I also know that the "missing" document which used to be available covered all of the steps needed to perform this task smoothly.

Re: Restore a make_net_recovery Archive on to a different server?

I have managed to succesfully accomplish what I set out to do. I will work to detail the process and post it to this thread. Suffice it to say, there are two main locations that changes need to be made, and it is a much easier process if the machine that you are igniting to has had an ignite image made to the ignite server, for identifying information that can be used in the redirect.
