Restore a Make_Tape_Recovery

Here's a stupid question but an easy one. Our rp3440 server had the primary boot disk replaced. Somehow the alternate got corrupted. I inserted the make_tape_recovery tape, did a "sea ipl" and it only found the tape. So far, so good. I did a straight "Install Unix" from the tape to the primary disk. My question is, does the ignite tape do the pvcreate, mkboot, etc. I did not enter these commands and everything worked fine.

Re: Restore a Make_Tape_Recovery

Bob,
that is the purpose of the recovery tape.
It restores your installation, so all the recovery steps are done for you and you should end up with a root disk as it was when the recovery tape was made.

Re: Restore a Make_Tape_Recovery

You will need to re-mirror your second disk, though.

Re: Restore a Make_Tape_Recovery

Hi,

It almost clones your original system..

so you no need to do those pvcreate and other stuffs again.

Thanks,

Re: Restore a Make_Tape_Recovery

Forgot to add that you have to build your alternate disk again...

Thanks,

Re: Restore a Make_Tape_Recovery

Thanks everyone. I did re-mirror the 2nd disk. I never restored to a new disk, I have always restored to an existing boot disk.
