						Hi
I need to restore the following fron an Ignite tape:
/var/spool/uv (all files in /var/spool/uv)
I did the following:
mt -f /dev/rmt/0mn rew
mt -f /dev/rmt/0mn fsf 1 (that a numeric 1, not the letter 'l')
Is this the syntax of the tar command that I should use next?
tar xvf /dev/rmt/0mn /var/spool/uv/*
Thanks

I don't believe you can specify any wildcard characters as file name, just leave it at the directory level and it will restore the whole directory. If you need to extract some files out of that directory, you will need to specify them by their full names. Wildcards will not work.
But for your purpose
tar xvf /dev/rmt/0mn /var/spool/uv
is all you need

						Hi Rogger ,
Yes , you are going to right direction.
to restore /var/spool/uv from the Ignite tape do the following:
1. # mt -f /dev/rmt/0mn rew
2. # mt -f /dev/rmt/0mn fsf 1
3. # cd /
4. # tar xvf /dev/rmt/0mn var/spool/uv
* Dont go to /var/spool/uv directory and execute else it will create the directory again.
Cheers ,
Raj.
