Restore HP-UX

My system disk failed. I didn't have recovery tape. I installed new OS on system disk. Is there posibility to attached another disks (other volume groups and logical volumes) or I lost data on all other disks.

Re: Restore HP-UX

Hi,

You can perform a vgimport of all other VGs into the new OS. You should know which disk devices were together in a VG. If each disk was in a seperate VG, there is no complication.

brief steps,

1) mkdir /dev/vgxy
mknod /dev/vgxy/group c 64 0x010000
^^
This value is unique for different VGs.

2) vgimport /dev/vgxy /dev/dsk/c3t2d0
^^^^^^ Substitute this value with the actual device file.

3) vgchange -a y vgxy
4) create approriate mount points and mount individual filesystems.
5) repeat the steps for each VG substituting the values appropriately.

With regards,
Mohan.

Re: Restore HP-UX

Go into SAM -> disks and filesystems -> volume groups -> actions -> import.

SAM will then scan the discs and import volume groups.

When folks help you, the polite thing to do is to say "Thank you" by assigning points. I was going to help you again today, you never posted points for yesterdays help, in fact you rarely give points anytime. Post some points, and maybe more folks will take time out of THEIR BUSY days to help you. Otherwise, just keep winging it like you have been.
