Restore OS using ignite backup from PA8700 to PA8900

can we restore OS using ignite recovery from PA8700 to PA8900?
my source system running on Superdome PA8700, hpux 11.11 patch bundle December 2002. Target server is Superdome PA8900 (dual core)

Hi,

questions like this are asked almost every day here in the forums.

Unfortunately nobody posts any results.

Try to install the backup using the "different hardware" option while installing (because of the different hardware) and install the latest patch bundle (especially HWEnable) before backing up the host.

No guarantee but a good chance to make this work.

What has failed?

If you don't install the appropriate patches your system can't work with the hardware ;-(
In this case the "new" hardware is probably unknown to the restored kernel in the "new" system.

Hi,

I think your best shot is to upgrade current patch bundles and HWE to Dec'04
