Restore too long
It was a full save about 400 GB + incr save.
But the restore from session had last too long - several hours.
It had read first more as 200 GB.
Can I restore it faster?
and how?
I have
Cellmanager: Winserv2003
Client: WinXPProf
DP 5.5
Thanks

Re: Restore too long
You could have restored it faster had this data been on an EMC symmetrix, and you had a BCV copy as a backup, then it would be mere minutes to restore the data.
But being that you have it on tape, then you just need to suffer the fate of tape: SLOW.

Re: Restore too long
Like harry had mentioned I feel the same but even from a tape the restore should not take so many hours, is it multiple tapes?

Re: Restore too long
It depends on your drive also what you are using for backup. Ultrium1 & 2 will be much faster than you DDS tapes. Another point will be to use dedicated media's with strict allocation & NON apendable policy for such backup's where you want to restore only a portion of data. For achiving this all the media selected for that backup should have strict allocation & non apendable enabled. This will prevent your backup from going to multiple partially used tapes.
Also these symptoms indicates that you have probably backup using only one or max two tape drives. It that correct ? How many total drives you have which can be used ?
In our environment we back 1.2TB in 2 hours using 5 Ultrium2 tape drives with Dp5.1 & XP1024. Restoration of the whole data takes around 3 to 3.5 hours to different location allthough luckily never required to restore to same location.

Re: Restore too long
I'd say investigate both the tape and the device for problems or errors. You might need to clean the device, check the scsi-connections and mark the tape for not usable for backups...
