Restoring Ignite from rp7410 to rp7420

Hello all,

Is it possible to restore Ignite backup made on rp7410 server to a new
rp7420 server ? Hardware configuration is similar: the same internal disks,
lan cards, fc HBAs, etc. The only difference are processors / motherboard.

I can upgrade Ignite binaries (on rp7410) to the latest version as needed.

Best regards,
Wojtek

Wojtek,

It should work just fine. Definitely use the latest version:

These machines are very similar.

Ignite has an interactive interface that you can invoke to get to an Ignite install prompt when you boot from the tape or ignite server. This lets you do any kind of customization you need based on differing hardware.

You can get the latest ignite binaries from http://software.hp.com

Yes,
That is possible with backup what you are having. No need to upgrade Ignite Binaries for this.

Re: Restoring Ignite from rp7410 to rp7420

Yes you should be able to restore an ignite backup onto a "similar" architecture HP-UX machine. I've done restores of cell-based nPars/vPars onto non-cell based ones.

But for the subject in question - 7410 to 7420 - well you must make sure that your current 7410 is running HPUX 11i DEC2003 or better (or must have HWE 12/03 or better..). PA8800 full support comes with the DEC2003 release and later..
