Re: Restoring the ignite archive to the server

HI

a) insert tape
b) reboot
c) interrupt boot up
d) from BCH> sea ipl
e) from sea ipl report, select tape index number, ie. bo p0
f) bo p# associated with tape
g) during first seconds of tape boot up a message will be displayed for automatic restore or customized, choose customized.
h) self explanatory tab key and space bar menu from here. Navigating the menu with the tab key hardest.

Note: That you can spend 5 or 20 minutes filling in data like ip addresses of NTP server, hostname, DNS server, so its best to collect everything on paper before getting started. Especially your file system sizes.

Use 'lvdisplay' for current lvol sizes.

The final step is 'GO' selection. Only when you 'GO' will the custom restore begin.

HI

Much of what use to be documented for Pa-Risc comes up with dead links. I've tried to put together enough for you to refer to:

In some cases you are going to see references to spliting the boot mirrors and saving the alternate for roll back. This is a different procedure that you should open up a new thread for, but in general, involves about an hour of work using lvsplit and then, after you've reached the point of no return and believe all is well, lvmerge. Both commands can be performed online with the system up without a reboot, but you will see suggestions to run from lvm maintenance mode or single user.
