restrict user accessing desktop icon

What do you mean by this? A desktop icon is a windows thingy and you are on a server, not a workstation.

Are you talking about a CDE icon? Which?

I need ur advise on how to edit the profile that i have created such as login ID for production. Iw ant to restricted to few items only on the desktop. And also
can i change mode the file that i want to block? Only super user can change it right?

Please be more specific in what you want to block.

Likely if you change the mode, nobody but root can access the file. (Right, only root can change permission on system files.)

Are you providing a shell to this user, or are you making .profile execute a limited menu of options?
