I encountered a problem today while trying to update a server from 11i v1 to 11i v2 from a dvd.
# ioscan -kfnC disk
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
=====================================================================
disk 0 0/0/1/1.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE SEAGATE ST318404LC
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0
disk 1 0/0/1/1.2.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 18.2GMAP3367NC#HJ
/dev/dsk/c1t2d0 /dev/rdsk/c1t2d0
disk 2 0/0/2/0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE SEAGATE ST318404LC
/dev/dsk/c2t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0
disk 3 0/0/2/0.2.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE SEAGATE ST318404LC
/dev/dsk/c2t2d0 /dev/rdsk/c2t2d0
disk 4 0/0/2/1.2.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP DVD-ROM 304
/dev/dsk/c3t2d0 /dev/rdsk/c3t2d0
we mounted the dvd and tried to install using swinstall. the mount name for the dvdrom is /cdrom. The command we executed is #swinstall -s /cdrom. Once we're inside a pop out message was shown, it says.
"ssaso152:/cdrom": You do not have permission for this operation.
The depot owner, system administrator, or alternate root owner may
need to use the "swreg" or "swacl" command to give you permission. Or, to manage applications designed and packaged for nonprivileged mode, see the "run_as_superuser" option in the "sd" man page.
My question is i'm in root mode, and its unusual that the system is asking me to check with my system admin. How do i solve this? thx in advance

Re: Restricted permissions while updating from 11i v1 to 11iv2
cd
swreg -l depot
Also,
while updating from 11i v1 to 11iv2
Consider a different plan. update-ux does not work very well.
