Resync Mirrors HP-UX 11.00 L-Class

The primary disk became dislodged and was not detecting with an ioscan for some time. The system was since rebooted off the mirrored copy. I put the primary back in place and it is now detecting, how do I tell the primary to resync off the alternate(mirrored) copy so that it is up to date and current again?

In other words, disk 1 is mirrored to disk 2. Disk was taken out of the system for a few days, the system continued to run off disk2. I rebooted the system and booted off disk2. Once the system was up, I put disk 1 back into its slot, known to the system as the primary boot. How would I catch disk 1 back up to date with disk 2? I want to make sure disk 2 doesn't sync from disk 1 or I would lose valuable data.

Hi:

You can simply do:

# vgsync vg00

When the process completes you should see all logical volumes with a status of 'available/synced' when you do:

# vgdisplay -v vg00

Will it sync the correct disk? Meaning will the one that has the oldest data on it be overwritten?

This will by my first time resyncing the disk on HP-UX and I want to be sure the current data won't be overwritten by older data?

The old disk data is the primary boot disk the current data is on the alternate mirrored disk.

Just being overly cautious.

since you didn't run lvreduce or vgreduce commands on primary disk, it is the best way to run vgsync command to sync up mirror. You won't lose any data. But you may have to replace primary disk in future. This is the indication of Hardware failure. You can check EMS logs if you have EMS software installed and configured. Check cstm logs also.

You could probably also try a vgdisplay -v vg00 to see which logical volumes are out of sync. Then a lvdisplay -v /dev/vg00/lvolx for each lvol to see which disk the system thinks is out of sync.

Since You have rebooted, the primary disk(disk 1)is not added to vg00. What you need to do is:

Run "vgchange -a y /dev/vg00" to add disk 1 back to vg00 and then run "vgsync /dev/vg00" to sync disk 2 back to disk 1. The server might actually start to sync after you run vgchange then you don't need to run vgsync.
