rexecd: Password for this account expired. message

A user is using rexec from his PC to run an xterm window from the HP-UX 11.00 server. He has recently changed his password and can log in using the new password okay using ordinary telnet, but when running the rexec gets the error message "rexecd: Password for this account expired.".

If he tries rcmd instead, he gets the message "remshd: Password for this account expired."

No-one else is having any problems, only the one user.

Any ideas?

Have him try this from a PC "dos" window:

rexec HOSTNAME -l USERNAME who

and enter in the passwd when prompted.

Is it possible that the user didn't have a passwd before?

Although I don't like the idea, you could set his account up with a .rhosts file containing his PC's IP address (or PC name).

Eeek! Security issues galore.

Might I recommend secure shell? It can probably accomplish what you need to do and do it without the security holes of your current setup.

Here is a link to the software. Attached is a cookbook for setting it up. You might need to get a version for the PC, but there are several free versions out there.
