Right mouse pointer

Here's the situation.. once in a great while, my users get a right mouse pointer (where it angles to the right, instead of the left), and it locks up the mouse. They can't click or anything. The only thing I was told I could do was to reboot their system. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what may be causing this or what the fix is? At first, I thought it was I-DEAS, because only they were experiencing it, but now our UG people are experiencing it as well.

Thanks,
Russ

Re: Right mouse pointer

Russ,

What OS? What release? This is most likely an X application? What is the server the application is running on?

What's a UG people?

Re: Right mouse pointer

I can't resist.....

These users must be guys who dress to the right.

OK...I'm done now.

Cheers,
Jeff

Seriously, I've never seen this before. I'd check X-server patch levels...maybe corupted lib/bin files.....

Re: Right mouse pointer

Oh...one other thing...

If these are Winblows users - Exceed..Chameleon, etc...it could be ALL in the client.

Lord knows - MicroSucks apps & it's OS NEVER screw up....excuse me I hurt my head there...I think I'm OK now....

My 2 cents,
Jeff

Re: Right mouse pointer

Hi Russ,

i had a symptom here that comes close to what you describe. In my case this is a document management that sometimes locks X-Windows up with a right mouse pointer. Sometimes the problem is solved by killing this application, sometimes not.

You dont have to reboot the machine. but you have to restart the X-Server.

What i do here is a ps -fu user and kill all those processes. This will restart the X-Server and give the user a new login window.

But i prefere to kill one application at a time and hopefully the CAD application will accept a commad to save the changes.

This is for HP-UX 10.20.

Hope this helps

Regards Stefan

Re: Right mouse pointer

Sorry.. this is HP-UX 11.0. UG people=people who work in Unigraphics. These are HP B3600 workstations. As far as I know, all patches are applied for X. I'll have to check it out again.
