Rlogin delays about 2 minutes after stablish a connection
I am trying to connect from terminal emulator using rlogin. After 2 minutes approximately the connection is stablish. Can anybody tell me how to fix this?

Re: Rlogin delays about 2 minutes after stablish a connection
Hi Edgar:
This would appear to be a delay due to a DNS reverse name lookup.
To test this, add a hostname/address pair to the local '/etc/hosts' file. The name is immaterial --- it could be "edgar". If your delay disappears, you need to add reverse name pointer records to your DNS environment.
Regards!

Re: Rlogin delays about 2 minutes after stablish a connection
DNS failure. You likely have a file called /etc/resolv.conf with at least 3 DNS servers listed. None of these DNS servers can find your rlogin's IP address (or they are not responding at all) and because rlogin can be a security risk, the resolver is trying to find your hostname or IP address. The timeout for each DNS nameserever is 30 seconds, so 3x30 = 90 seconds, apx 2 mins.
Start by changing /etc/nsswitch.conf to use file then dns as in:
hosts: files [NOTFOUND=continue UNAVAIL=continue] dns
Then add your IP address to /etc/hosts. If your terminal emulator is a PC, put your current PC's address in /etc/hosts and give it a dummy name. And in the $HOME directory of the user you are rlogin'ng to, make sure you have both the hostname AND the IP address (on different lines).
