root account locked out

the root account on my A400 server is locked out. It only has a terminal attached to it. HP-UX 11.0 tusted system. How do I get it unlocked?

If you have the root password, then you can always logon to the main console, which on some A's is a webconsole.

As long has you don't have a blank /etc/securetty file on your box, Harry's recommendation will be your best bet. Your other option is single user mode, but you don't want to go there if you don't have to.

I checked our A180, it has a serial port for a regular console connection, don't know about the A400 specs...

The modprpw will work on you 11 box althouth the example says 10.01. Here is the manpage if you are interested.

Hi,

You can use modprpw or you can use sam user account management.

Hi,

I used restricted Sam which I enabled myself to have the function to manage user account. Unfortunately, even that it is not allowed to reactivate the deactivated root account. Fortunately, I reset the number of unsuccessful login retires to a larger number. The the root account was enabled.

Try it if you have the privilege...
