root disabled after changing the passwd

Hi All,

kindly help me in understanding this.

i was able to login with root account, i have changed the passwd for root. after that i am not able to login with root account, but i am able to login with any user and su, this works fine.

there is no /etc/securetty file present.

kindly help me !!!

Hi,

We came across a similar situation.

What we have done is that. We have login to the console and given the password, the password was having 15 characters but typed only first 8 characters.

It worked fine.

You may try that.

Thanks for the response, but i have the passwd length is just 7 chars.

i am able to su - from normal user.

does your passwd contains special characters.change it and try.

Oops !! thats true i had special chars, after changing, it worked fine, but my question is .. is the passwd shoudnt contain special chars !! i am surprised to see this !!
