Re: root mirror issue

You need to PURCHASE and install the MirrorDisk/UX product.

MirrorDisk does NOT come standard with the OS, it is an add-on that you must purchase.

Information on MirrorDisk/UX is available here:

Re: root mirror issue

Looks like you don't have MirrorDisk/UX installed since the -m option isn't recognized on the lvextend command. Check to see if its installed or not:

swlist | grep Mirror

Re: root mirror issue

You basically have two disconnected boot disks on your system i.e. H/W path 0/1/1/0.1.0 and 0/1/1/0.1.0, you should purchase MirrorDisk/UX in order to keep your boot vol mirrored.

Re: root mirror issue

Hi,

It seems as if you don't have the MirrorDisk/UX software installed. This software is not FREE you have to buy it.

Re: root mirror issue

Mukesh,

You can check this :

# swlist -l product | egrep '(mirror|critical)'

And if you dont find the MirrorDisk/UX software you can not use lvextend with -m option. Also if you have Hp-ux OS bundle with mission critical , this will be installed as a default.

Cheers,
Raj.

Re: root mirror issue

Or you can use OnlineJFS the base install will allow you to mirror the root volume group. It's free and works well if you don't need advanced features (shrink volumes for example). Once other implication is you would have to convert to VxFS.

Re: root mirror issue

I think you are confusing things.

OnlineJFS is NOT Veritas Volume Manager.

OnlineJFS is a part of LVM that allows online expanding and shrinking of volumes. It also has NOTHING to do with mirroring. This is NOT a free product and there is no "Base Online JFS".

OnlineJFS infor here:
http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=B3929CA

I think you are thinking of the Base VxVM product.

Base VxVM info is available here:
http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=VXVM3.5

VxVM documentation:
http://docs.hp.com/en/oshpux11i.html#VxVM

Info on mirroring a disk with VxVM:

Re: root mirror issue

The next generation of the product formerly known as JFS is now called: Veritas File System ( http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?product
Number=BASEVXFS)

That's what I was referring to. There are 2 versions:

Base VxFS - HP JFS 3.5 - FREE
Full VxFS - HP OnlineJFS

The link above shows the differences. B.03.50 is the base one I believe. HP JFS 3.5, and base VxFS are used interchangeably throughout the docs.

If you only want to mirror the rootvg and don't have other volumes but the system ones my advice is use VxFS. For example in a system with 2 disks, one of them being spare, mirror the "active" disk using VxFS you run (cXtYdZ is the spare disk):
#/opt/VRTS/bin/vxrootmir -v cXtYdZ
(make sure you don't use bash!)

OnlineJFS has nothing to do with LVM. When you say JFS you mean VxVM/VxFS.

Sorry for the confusion. Hope this helps.

Re: root mirror issue

Hi ,

If my memory is correct If you are using HPUX 11.11 or later u dont need a mirror UX for mirroring vg00 .You can mirror a Vg00 even if u dont have Mirror UX in HPUX 11.11 and later.

Note: Only vg00 can be mirrored without mirror us in hpux11.11 and later

What is your OS version , if it is HPUX 11.00 or lower u may need to purchase Mirror UX

Thanks,
Siva
