root password forgotten

someone has changed my root password.
how to recover it?

Hi,

You need to reboot in single user mode.
Boot the machine, interrupt the process at the "10 second" prompt
interact with ISL
enter "hpux -is" at the ISL prompt.
You'll come up already logged in as root. Simply use the passwd command to reset the password and then "shutdown -r -y now" again to get back to normal, multi-user mode.

reboot the node into Single usermod or LVM maintnance mode as follows and u will have a root session opened w/o passwd.

From IPL press any key within 10 (?) seconds

Interact with IPL Y/N --- Y
hpux -is (Single user mod)
hpux -lm (Maintanance level)

passwd root

Yes, Single user is the right way but if you have sudo install than also you can change it by sudo or if this system is trusted to another, try rlogin to this system from another as root user.
