and having a error "WARN80F5" Failed to Initialize. Tryed 10.20 and 11.0 cd's got same error. Need to get into OS or how to boot in single mode to change a root password. Please help we stuck with it.

Re: Root password

Hi,

when you need boot to single user mode
you can use boot to interact with IPL after restart and then
ISL> hpux -is boot

Re: Root password

Hi,

to get into single user mode interrupt the boot sequence by pressing any key within 10 seconds.
Now type: BOOT PRI
and reply to the answer INTERACT WITH IPL with YES.
Machine comes now up to ISL mode.
At ISL mode (ISL>) type: hpux -is
this will boot into single user mode.
You will get a root prompt from which you can change the root password with:
/sbin/passwd root

Re: Root password

Warn 80F5 means Error executing entry init. I assume you get a status = -4, right?
That does not look good for your CD drive. You want to clean or replace it.
There is no good troubleshooting with bad data
