rp3410 and DLT8000 library

Hi I am installing a new DLT8000 tape libriry in a RP3410 system with OS HPux 11.00.

I Am using a scsi controller with part number A4800-A, but when I installed it and try to boot the system send me a errors and never boot.

I try attaching the libriry into the scsi port that come with the server but dont recognize the tape ,
some idea

thank you

Re: rp3410 and DLT8000 library

Not sure how to start here, need more information

Check the scsi id on the tape devices. How are you connected to the robotic arm? Do you have the right tape drivers installed? did you try ioscan -f and insf -e? etc.. etc..

Re: rp3410 and DLT8000 library

With everything connected and powered up.

ioscan

See what shows up. You should see the tape and the controller as seperate itmes.

If not, check the scsi id on the tape drive and make sure its not the same as what the scsi controller are not the same.

General advice, to maximize throughput on this type of tape device, give it its own scsi card. It will perform much more slowly if its daisy chained with other devices, especially disk.

Once it shows up on ioscan,

sam
kernel configuration
driver

make sure stape is in status in

Generate a new kernel boot the box and you should have full control of the device and it will be ready for use.

Re: rp3410 and DLT8000 library

Steven is correct,

You should have no more than two DLT tape devices per scsi card.

BTW: I hate scsi tape devices. I always try to get my company/s to buy fiber drives, they are so much better.

Re: rp3410 and DLT8000 library

The first thing that you absolutely, positively must determine is if the library and drives use HVD (Hi-Voltage Differential, often called FWD) SCSI or LVD (Lo-Voltage Differental) SCSI. EVERY component on the bus (except the cables) must be either HVD or LVD; you cannot mix components on the same bus. For example, if every component on the bus were HVD except one terminator you still have problems and in severe cases can damage every component on the bus.

The A4800A is an HVD controller; the built-in controllers are LVD but as the others have mentioned one DLT7000/DLT8000 per dedicated bus. If you are not planning on running both drives simultaneously then it's okay to share the bus.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: rp3410 and DLT8000 library

ok , we do the test with this card and work in right way.

Just only is necessary to remember that only must be installed in slot 1 or 2 .

thank you to every body.
