Re: rp3440
First, check /tmp. There is a chance that this temporary directory has a lot of trash that can be safely deleted.

Re: rp3440
However, check / for large files and wrongly placed directories and misspelled tape backups.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Solutioncd /
find / ! -local -xdev -o -size +10000000c -exec ls -la {} \;
You can play with the size in order to find out files over some imposed limit
If those files are unecessary, you could delete/move them to another LVOL.
-xdev would limit the search to /, ignoring mountpoints.

Re: rp3440
du --total -x /
would list totals of each subdirecories residing on the same LVOL as /
Like this you can find out the biggest directories from /

Re: rp3440
Did you do a vgreduce to remove the disk from the corresponding vg00?
You could do something like this:
vgreduce -f vg00
mv /etc/lvmtab /etc/lvmtab.old
vgscan -v

Re: rp3440
Core files are created by abnormal termination of ordinary programs.
For your vg related problem, please post the output of the following.
#lvlnboot -v
#strings /etc/lvmtab
#pvdisplay /dev/dsk/c2t0d0
#lvdisplay -v /dev/vg00/lvol1 | head -n 20
All of your LVs are in stale status.Did you make any changes in your LVM..??
Do you have latest ignite backup with you..??

Re: rp3440
There is no such option in HP-UX. To get the directory usage, use sort:
du / -kx | sort -rn | head -20
You look in the largest directories for big files:
ll /etc | sort -rnk5 | head -20
To find any core files, use:
find / -xdev -name core -exec ll -d {} \;
Before removing the core file, use the file command to determine the process name that created the core file.
file /somedir/core

Re: rp3440
From the above vgdisplay output, there might be something wrong with your system. Post an "ioscan -fn" output to see what devices you have.

Re: rp3440
There is a step by step document related to bad disk problems. Please read:
http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-1236/When_Good_Disks_Go_Bad_WP.pdf
It is possible that your disk is a defctive one. In this case you will need another disk. For recovery, you need to take the steps from the above document.

Horia.

>There is no such option in HP-UX
He is right. The option he is talking about is of course "--total".
du that I use is part of a package called GNU coreutils and has this option I was originally taked of.
GNU coreutils offer some more options which will make sysadmin's (at least one that was used before with Linux and some other UNIX-es) life a little easyer.
coreutils can be installed toghether with the orignial HP-UX utilities (du, df/etc...).

Horia.
