rp5470 auto shutdown by ups application

Can you please advise on the following issues;
1. We have a project that required the server (rp5470, UNIX rel 11i o/s) to auto shutdown whenever the ups detected there is a incoming power failure. Of course we need to install this (POWER FLAG) ups auto shutdown software at the server. Is this POWERFLAG software program compatible with the server ? If not, please recommend.

2. Will the server support this auto shutdown application ? Will there be any implication to the server performance ?

3. Is there any others software program needed for the server to run this auto shutdown application ?

Hi,

I believe PowerFLAG is 3rd party software, but it's not something I'm familiar with.

HP-UX 11i does come with built-in UPS monitoring software if you are using an HP UPS, this is able to shutdown the server in the event of power failure. Take a look at the man pages for ups_mond(1M) and ups_conf(4) for more info.

regards,

Darren.

Hi. Check out:

http://www.geindustrial.com/cwc/products?pnlid=8&id=powerflag

Nothing is listed about how this SW works to shutdown a host, nor are any specific vendor or OS listed.

They also have:

http://www.geindustrial.com/cwc/products?famid=46&catid=212&id=jumpshield

The Jumpshield mentions that is uses Java, so it "...supports virtually all platforms having JAVA runtime environment version 1.2 or higher. (It will also work on most 1.1.7 and higher JAVA environments.)"

I don't know quite what to make of that. You would need to contact GE INDUSTRIAL to ask them whether this does what you want, and works like you think it does. Contact info is at:
