rp5470 hardware configuration - Fibre channel controllers - existing controllers and adding more
I have a hardware configuration question:
rp5470 running 11i and online JFS
I have an RP5470 processor running 11i and online JFS with 2 fibre channel adapters in the top two physical slots with a va7100 array locally attached to these controllers.
Hardware addressed as follows:
0 0/10/0/0 CLAIMED INTERFACE Tachyon XL2 r
1 0/12/0/0 CLAIMED INTERFACE Tachyon XL2 r
I want to add a va7410 by adding two more
adapters. I will transfer data to the 7410 from the 7100, and in a few months I would like to remove the 7100 and use it elsewhere.
I understand that the top two slots (11 and 12) in a 5470 are 133mhz "twin turbo" slots, and I will have a performance benefit by having my final 7410 configuration attached to the adpters in these slots.
My question is this: when I install the 2 additional fibre channel adapters (say slots 9 and 10) and the additional va7410, I would like to connect the 7410 to the two existing FC adapters in slots 11 and 12 and connect my 7100 to the FC adapters I've just installed. Am I free to swap these connections and transparently continue access to the data on the 7100, or are the LUNS and their correspong device files
tied to the hardware addresses (and therefore the physical slots the adapters reside in)? If so, how do transfer the 7100 FC connections to two other adpters and maintain access to the data on that array?
Thanks in advance!!

Hi,
I would suggest you moving this question to hp-ux forum.

You can swap them. This assumes that all the slots involved support the cards you are working with, which I gather from your post is the case.
All your instance numbers will change as far as device access.
Most applications don't care but if any application is using the /dev/dsk ... path it will wonder where its data is.
I'm asking HP to move this case to HP-UX.

Re: rp5470 hardware configuration - Fibre channel controllers - existing controllers and adding more
If You're using pvlinks (You probably do) and are well-planning this, this can be done completely online in the LVM part.
I'm not sure how much OLA/R is recommended on the RP5470, if there's no obstacles like old PDC firmware and such, I'd say You need no downtime or access interruption at all for this.

yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.
