rp8420 local console port not talking

Hello;

I need to hook up an ascii terminal to my rp8420 local console port and it does not talk. Used same terminal on N4000 console port and it works fine.

any trick to make the local console port talk

I need to use the local console port to check the MP lan config

thanks much;

Re: rp8420 local console port not talking

I believe the config is 8,n,1
8 bits, no pariety, 1 stop bit.
Speed is 9600

Is terminal/emulator set the same?

Re: rp8420 local console port not talking

hello;

thanks for the reply, the only ascii terminal I have is an HP C1099 and it works fine on an NCLass

found the setup page for this terminal via the web and I cannot check the terminal config.

Re: rp8420 local console port not talking

If the terminal works on the N4000, move the terminal *AND* the cable to the new system. The most common failure is to use the wrong serial cable. If you need to have a separate cable, the console-to-computer cable is called a null-modem or direct-connect serial cable. In a PC store, this cable is usually called a serial printer cable.

Hi,

just to add this information:

only the upper MP card will work, you won't get a prompt if using the lower card.

Hope this helps!

Re: rp8420 local console port not talking

Shalom,

Alternate idea: The serial port itself may not work.

Have you tried the built in RJ45 console?

There is a default configuration and ip address that you can connect to using a hub (to keep it off the lan and interfering with other systems).

All these nice machines have good doc at http://docs.hp.com
