rp8420 / Oracle 10g benchmarks
Can anyone point me to some performance stats or benchmarks, tpmC, etc. for the rp8420 series with Oracle 10g?
Thank you.
Bill

Re: rp8420 / Oracle 10g benchmarks
Shalom Bill,
Benchmarks are nice, but don't expect reality to come close. Those tests are designed to produce high scores.
Real life is repeat with I/O issues, poor sql issues and other things that tend to slow Oracle down.
The machine you ask in is very, very powerful if given the right disk setup and adequate memory.

Re: rp8420 / Oracle 10g benchmarks
Thanks for the link to that thread Peter; I hadn't seen it before.
The last post in that thread is almost a year old. Does anyone know if the HP hardware (rp8420, specifcally) has architecturally changed in the last year?
Of course the ability to process will be primarily based on the configuration of cell boards, CPUs, and memory, however I'm looking to estimate some hardware that can handle about 250k TPM.
In doing so, I'm pretty much stuck in the framework of our company, which to this point does not involve itanium processors.
However, if the cost benefits for going itanium are worth the risk, then it's a possibility.
In the meantime, I need to scope out an rp8420 or similar, that can handle about 250K TPM.
Given my limited ability to determine what I need, it looks like a starting point would be an rp8420 with 4 cells, 16 CPUs, and 24 (?) GB of memory.
Can anyone help me in trying to spec this system?
Thanks alot,
Bill
