rpc.ttdbserver error messages

Document Id : HPSBUX0110-168 Sec. Vulnerability in rpc.ttdbserverd (rev.2) recommended that the permissions for rpc.ttdbserver be set to read-only. Rev. 3 of the same document recommends disabling the service. We have not gotten to implementing changes specified in Rev. 3 yet.

We are running HP-UX 10.20 on a number of diffent hardware sets (725s, 715s, C3000s, J5000, J2240) but with the same identical application. Changing the permissions of rpc.ttdbserver to read-only worked fine for all hardware platforms except the J2240. Whenever a user logs in as root on the console (running CDE), we get an error from inetd logged as:

rpcttdbserver/tcp: Exit status 1
execv /usr/dt/bin/rpc.ttdbserver: Permision denied.

To my knowledge, we are not running anything that requires Tool Talk. Anyone else experiencing this problem? Will commenting out the service in /etc/inetd.conf be a better way to go? Interested in any comment. Thanks.

Darren

Re: rpc.ttdbserver error messages

Hi Darren,

Try to load the latest CDE patch and its dependent patches. It may solve your problem.

Hope this helps.
