running ifconfig lanX down
I am confused. I have a box with three NICs. They had all been configured to be on the same subnet by my predecessor.
We just bought port aggregation but am evaluating the need for it. As such, I wanted to turn off two of the three.
I issued the commands and they execute w/o any errors. I do a lanscan and I see them as up - but I think that's okay becuz it's reporting hardware state - not software state.
I ping the addresses that I turned off and they respond! I telnet to them and I get a logon prompt.
Thinking I messed up on the command line, I go try to disable the NICs thru SAM, but I see that they are already disabled.
Please explain and tell me how to really turn them off - short of yanking the NICs themselves 8-).

Re: running ifconfig lanX down
I must have hit a dead spot in my brain this morning - I could have sworn the pings and telnets were to the same IP address that I changed status on.
Nevermind....8-)
