If this server did not come with features allowing 2 OS images to be run at the same time, what would be cost effective ways of adding software or hardware to the machine to allow it to run 2 OS images? The purpose of all this is to do consolidation of old servers onto a newer server that would be to run 1 image to test patches to v11 and run the 2nd image to test patches to v11i.

BUT, you can use virtual partitions and run multiple 11i instances. You will need to get rid of your 11.00 and go with 11i (11.11).

you can run 2 images of 11i using v-par as specified by Harry.
whereas you can't run both 11.0 and 11i on the same machine simultaneously
check the white paper for Virtual partition specification

SolutionYou can also, boot 11.00, do your thing, then shutdown and boot 11i (11.11) and do your thing - to do this you build two different boot disks.
If that doesn't work for you, then I'd suggest getting an A-class server and do your 11.00 testing on and then getting vPars (virtual partitions) for your N and run two instances of 11i.
