Running modem off of core I/O port

I've connected a 56k multi-tek modem to the 9-pin serial port on the core I/O on both my rp7400 and rp5400 servers. Within a day or two I am unable to connect to the modem. All configuration and connections are just fine. I am able to run commands (such as "atz")on the modem to reset it but eventually this too fails. This problem appears to happen on ALL of the rp7400s that we run. The only way to resolve the problem is to reboot the server. Core I/O boards have been changed but to no avail. Will I need to purchase a multiplexor just to get the single modem to work? Any ideas?

Re: Running modem off of core I/O port

John,

Are you talking about the console port or the ups port?

What firmware are your servers at, and what OS are you running?

Have you checked the patch database?

Re: Running modem off of core I/O port

I think you need to set the speed of the Port through GSP. I don't know whether the GSP supports the 56K speed or not. Instead of rebooting the server, have you tried by resetting the GSP? If it works after resetting the GSP then it is the problem with GSP and if it doesn't then it is a problem with the OS setting. Try to load the latest GSP firmware. And by the way, you can reset the GSP in the online condition, it will not affect your Server.

Re: Running modem off of core I/O port

How will loading the new GSP firmware affect my operation? I know that sometimes there is considerable downtime. What should I expect when loading this firmware?

Also, how (what command) can I run remotely to find out what firmware level I'm at (for GSP)?
