Running SAM with X11 is slow on one Node

We have two identical HPux11.00 N-class servers with 4 cpu and 4giga of memory.
And lan card running at 100FD.

Despite these similarities , when running SAM
on the one it displays the splash screen so quickly we have no time to read it and the graphical menu with icons appear rapidly.

On the other node however , strangely enough we see no splash screen bu tjust a minimized little window in the left top corner for about 3-4 seconds then the familiar graphical menu appears, but with a sandtimer indicating it is loading the icons for another 4-5 seconds.

We use Reflection X version 8.0.1 and we tried it from different pc's. Same sympton.

The difference in startup time of Sam is really puzzling.
Could it be that there is something wrong with the font drivers ?

Furthermore an other product from IBM called WebSphere which runs an X11 console is significantly slower on that infamous Node.

I have run out of idea's what could be the underlying reason for this difference ?

Beside the local lan configuration, you should check the configuration in your switches/hubs that are configured the same as the card. Network problems can cause bad prformance with X protocol.

Is you computer loaded? what do you see with glance/top? CPU usage, MEMORY and DISK?

Do "uptime" to see load average?

No, It is not realy loaded ..
[root@<>>> uptime
9:16am up 5 days, 20:12, 10 users, load average: 0.23, 0.26, 0.26

The networking angle seems
possible, We will contact our network team :)

In particular, check for duplex mismatches between the switch settings and the NIC settings. Are they both really set to 100FD?

Does name resolution work correctly on both?

Any routing issues?

Re: Running SAM with X11 is slow on one Node

Thanks is was reduced to 100HD instead of 100FD for some reason, a reset did the trick
while fixing the port on the switch.

-- unbelievable it makes such
a difference !!
Thanks again
